Gowalla and Foursquare: The Future or unknown territory?

Does the social networking application and tool evolution ever stop? Apparently not.
Foursquare and Gowalla are the latest powerful entrants to the world, and have added an additional aspect: fun.

While most people and businesses are on social networks to make posts, share pictures, and to just "hang out", these two tools have now added a true community sense. A good way to look at this would be a combination of the major networks (FB, MySpace, etc) and the larger review sites (Yelp, CitySearch). Put them together and there you have it.

Businesses have jumped in to the fray and are using these tools for rewards, coupons, and ranking of loyal customers. Say a bar you visit is offering a rewards for visiting them 10 times. You simply show your phone with the app (you check in when you go into the establishment) to a worker and they give you something. Additionally, you can get a rank of "mayor", "jefe". "big kahuna", or "captain" by being loyal to an establishment.

What geo-targeting is to online advertising, geo-locating services are to these new apps.

Go take a look at them and get informed: Gowalla: http://www.gowall.com and FourSquare: http://www.foursquare.com.

Stay ahead and expand your reach in 2010 for your business.
